Easy Crafts – Spring Votive Candles

Need an easy and inexpensive craft project for Spring? You can find plain candles everywhere, but they can be really boring. Here’s an easy way to jazz them up without spending much money or time! Just a quick trip to the craft store and a few tools you already have on hand, and you can make a bunch of these cute votives to go all around the house.

  • Glass votive candle holders (make sure they’re straight sided)
  • Votive candles – scented, unscented or flameless (my candles came in the holders)
  • 3 or more sheets scrapbooking paper in coordinating colors and patterns
  • Ruler
  • Flexible measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • Xacto knife, scissors or paper cutter
  • Double-stick tape
  • Ribbon or twine (optional)

  1. Measure the height of a votive holder with the ruler. Take one sheet of the scrapbooking paper and on the back side, measure 1/16” smaller than your height measurement on one edge of the paper and make a mark with your pencil. Do the same thing on the opposite edge of the paper and make another mark. Draw a line between the two marks.
  2. Next, measure the circumference of the votive holder with your flexible tape measure and add ½ inch. Make two marks with your pencil on opposite edges of the paper to make a line intersecting the first line you drew.
  3. You should now have a long, thin rectangle that you can cut out. Using your Xacto knife, scissors or paper cutter, cut out the strip. If using scissors, be careful to cut a straight line.
  4. Repeat 1-3 above for your other sheets of paper for as many candles as you want to make.

5. Put a piece of double-stick tape on the backside of one short end of each of your strips of paper, getting as close to the edge of the paper as possible and making sure the length of the tape is equal to the edge of the paper.

6. Wrap each votive holder tightly with a strip of paper and secure firmly.

7. Tie the candles with twine or decorative ribbon, if desired. Enjoy your Spring Votive Candles!

Note:  If using wax candles, you can simply replace the candle when it burns down and enjoy these decorative votives for years!
